climate change

Today all newspapers and magazines have numerous articles on climate change and its impacts. India as a country with large coast line would definitely be adversely impacted. But is it only the policy issues or public debates which would mitigate this issue. The challenge lies in educating the public at large, training and re-training of professionals and faster implementation of green projects.

  1. I feel that green energy / climate change have become more of a fashion statement in our country. All senior officials talk about it more than often. Under the garb of such issues we end up hosting variety of workshops/conferences; eventually what is the take away - those who are already enlightened end up getting more enlightened. Does it help?

  3. Can we propose a sustainability audit encompassing an energy audit to be made compulsory an any industry/office establishment? This could be a statutory audit in line with financial audit. I guess this could be one step forward...

  4. We do have fair amount of certified energy auditors but in absence of any statutory standing, the effectiveness is simply not there. On one hand both money and time is being spent on creating a team of energy auditors while on the other we fail to utilise this important human resource. This one again leads me to believe that our talk of climate change, sustainability and green energy is merely a talking point. How do we make a breakthrough?

  6. We need to rattle our brains to make a smart beginning somewhere. Enlightened class of people are already aware of the issues confronting us but no one really wants to make a start. Diesel cars are happily being purchased by rich and educated class. Who cares. as long as anything is cheap it sells; even though at the cost of environment.
Should we not make it mandatory to audit each and every establishment? I guess this should make a difference.
